 North Pole NOT !
Just business as usual at the McClaus home . The $$ pour in  and they buy gifts. Gifts come in, they stack them &  match them to Mrs. McClaus's list.  Gifts are matched they wrap them. Gifts get wrapped, they get taken to the neighbor's garage for short term storage (thank goodness for snowbirds) Then the gifts come in and it's wrap time again...and again -until all 163 kids in the Lacey Food Bank have something to wear, something to play with, and some stocking stuffers for mom to pick...And then........... all of the gifts will be taken to Community Hall for December's distribution. Not to belabor the point, but this is a lot of work. But soon it's all over , for this year at least and Mr. McClaus will be able to eat in the dining room, sit in his favorite chair again, and what's more, the chairman has assured Mrs. McClaus that she'll get the next few Tuesdays off.
To all who'd like to help? Keep those toys & teen "Tchochke's" coming !

Everyone, young and young at heart, is invited to join our club at the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Water Park located next to Six Flags Great Adventure for a day of wet fun. FEINSTEIN FOUNDATION MILLION $$$ CHALLENGE
Earlier this year, we mailed our annual fund raising letter, pointing out that the more you gave us, the more dollars we would receive from the Feinstein Foundation. We are pleased to announce that we were awarded a sum generous enough to support one food bank family with food coupons and supplementary food for a year. This is an honor for us, considering that thousands of food pantries, nationwide, share the million $$. Next year we hope to double our efforts. Many thanks to Alan Shawn Feinstein and his foundation  for his work in helping the hungry.

REST IN PEACE
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Bill Ellis on June 14. Along with partner Dan Coleman, he was the proprietor of CAFFREY's Family Tavern & Restaurant. The Lacey Food Bank holds the volunteer luncheon each December at Caffrey's as a way of thanking them for their outstanding support because at  times, the annual donation from them literally kept us afloat. Bill was a genial big guy, who bashfully accepted our applause one year when he dropped by the table to say hello. He was only 48 years old. Our hearfelt sympathy goes out to his family and to Dan Coleman.

"MR. FOODBANK"
The Lacey Food Bank lost a dear friend and comrade on June 2nd, when Emil Ciangetti, former Chairman, and one of the original founders of the food bank, died as a result of an automobile accident.

Emil, 81,  was a loving father to his grandson Steve, who he adopted as a young boy. He was involved  in the food bank until his death, and belonged to many civic organizatons as well as being active in the Village Lutheran Church in Lanoka Harbor. He is honored for his  many good deeds performed within his family and his community.
Rest in Peace Friend

May 8th, Mark the Date!

This year, our fundraising letter will go out the third week of February.  The reception we receive from our mailings to the public, and the business, professional and medical communities is a fair indication on what we have to work with for the year. As usual, the general public leads the way with a solid response, we thank you all for your continued support.

The Feinstein Foundation's Million $$$ Challenge
Alan Shawn Feinstein is a millionaire with a cause - to wipe out hunger. Each year, his Rhode Island  based foundation awards 1 MILLION $$ to non- profit agencies from all over the country who share his goal by providing food to the needy. This year, we have enlisted in the Feinstein Foundation's "MILLION $ $ Challenge.. A pro-rated portion of the million $ will be matched by them to all the  contributions
we receive from you  during March & April.
So give generously dear friends !

We received  a generous donation from The Lacey Elks , making them our first esteemed sponsor for 2003. This gift is earmarked to buy ShopRite food certificates for the clients.  The Lacey Elks and ShopRite have displayed faith in the program by renewing their esteemed sponsorships.

Shoppers been great in filling the "BIG BLUES" especially with ShopRite's can -can  sale going on. So much in fact, that the storesmaster called in the gang of volunteers for extra duty this week. Thanks to all who care enough to remember the can and the people it serves. And thanks to all of the volunteers who work so hard.

January '04 and the Food Bank starts off the year with the donation of a van, courtesy of Amergen. (They also paid for the insurance) This will enable the stores master and the "Big Blue Crew" to make one trip instead of many while hauling cases of food from ShopRite.
